What Makes Roald Dahl a Good Writer?
What Makes Roald Dahl a Good Writer?
Many years ago, one other really inspiring American poet said: «No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader». His name was Robert Frost.
Drawing attention to readers is one of the most important aspects of the sphere of Literature. To be more precise, people probably just do not read ‘dry’ novels or stories. That is why I would like to analyze it using the brilliant works written by another talented British novelist Roald Dahl.
Drawing attention to readers is one of the most important aspects of the sphere of Literature. To be more precise, people probably just do not read ‘dry’ novels or stories. That is why I would like to analyze it using the brilliant works written by another talented British novelist Roald Dahl.
To begin with, I fell in love with his stories, which I have already read. They have all the benefits which are necessary for talented work. Hence, let me review the most significant and exciting stories and why these ones make Dahl so talented. Firstly, his works are lively. Roald Dahl teaches his reader how to behave yourself, which things are appropriate or not. Moreover, people can find a lot of up-to-date themes and messages like: greed and vanity (Vengeance is Mine, Inc, Parson’s Pleasure, The Great Automatic Grammatizator), unhappy marriage (Mrs Bigsby and the Colonel’s Coat, The Way Up to Heaven), revenge (Neck), taking risks (Man from the South), etc. He even mentions one of the most heartbroken and controversial topics like the necessity of war or the problem when innocent people are suffering because of that. One of the brightest examples is touching story Katina.
Besides, his language is marvelous. Such a beautiful one! In my personal view, the setting and the characters are also memorable. One of the greatest ways to show the character’s soul is his appearance. Dahl used it perfectly. The other incredible thing is mentioning of historical events, persons, things, etc. It was quite curious to read about some of them. Of course, I have to mention those unforgettable unexpected endings. He created the absolute masterpiece.
But on the other hand, some people suppose that Roald Dahl is not the best author. Firstly, those very endings somehow could be predicted. Secondly, the characters are unpleasant and sometimes even disgusting. Also, there are some cruel and violent moments. Anyway, so many men, so many minds.
To sum up, I believe that Roald Dahl is one of the most interesting, creative, talented authors. He combines a lot of important things for making a wonderful story. Without any doubts, many people remember and know him as an iconic writer. His imagination is awe-inspiring. Always. In every work.
