Let's Learn New Words!
Dear all,
Do you remember my note about one important article about Sierra Leone?
Anyway, I really want to share with you some useful expressions. Let it be Top-3 of such ones:
1. to persist
(All examples are from the article which I mantioned before).
Do you remember my note about one important article about Sierra Leone?
1. to persist
- If an unpleasant feeling or situation persists, it continues to exist;
- to try to do or continue doing something in a determined but often unreasonable way;
- to continue to exist past the usual time, or to continue to do something in a determined way even when facing difficulties or opposition.
e.g. This discriminatory ban persists and has been strongly condemned by, among others, Amnesty International.
2. inadequasy
- the fact that something is not good enough or is too small in amount;
- a lack of confidence that makes you feel unable to deal with a situation.
e.g. A recent report by the Secure Livelihoods Research Consortium highlighted some of the inadequacies in current programming.
3. caesarean
- an operation in which a woman's uterus is cut open to allow a baby to be born.
e.g. I recently saw a girl in clinic with terrible complications following a caesarean section. The operation had been botched and she had an infection around her uterus. She was in terrible pain and critically unwell. This was in the children’s clinic; the girl was 14 years old.
